Latest News: 6/20/08: Kyle and the team travelled to Lee USA Speedway this past Friday night to take on the fast 3/8 mile track. Kyle would start in the 8th position in the heat race with 12 cars taking the green. Kyle got stuck on the outside and dropped all the way back to the 11th spot before being able to get to the low line and start to move forward. At the end of the 10 lap race Kyle had made it back to where he had started and finished 8th. The 25 lap feature race had some great side by side racing as Kyle lost a few spots on the start but by half way the car was starting to come to him. By lap 20 Kyle had moved into the 5th spot but got loose out of turn 4 and made a great save to keep it out of the wall but loss 1 spot. On the white flag lap the #27 spun in front of Kyle who had to check up to get by him but no caution came out allowing the 7th place car to gain on Kyle going into turn 1. Kyle's spotter was watching the spun car to see if the caution would come out and didn't let Kyle know that the car was inside of him when he went into the corner. The 2 cars made slight contact sending them spinning up the track and the race ended under caution. There was no damage to either car but that did not make Kyle feel any better, who maybe looking for a new spotter next weekend. Next up is Canaan Fair Speedway this coming Saturday where Kyle and the team will be looking for a top 5 finish. See everyone at the track...
6/14/08: Kyle and the team showed up at Sugar Hill Speedway this past Saturday for the 2nd race in the North East Pavement Series. First up was qualifying for the Jr. Champ Animal class. Kyle timed in with the 3rd quickest out of 6 cars. Next up was the Jr. Champ Raptor class where Kyle was 2nd fastest in the 5 car field. With the threat of rain the drivers meeting was cancelled and the 20 lap features started. On the start Kyle Welch jumped out to a 15 car lead over Kyle and Tyler Roberston who tried to bump draft there way to the lead but were never able to close up the distance on the #9 of Kyle Welch who took the win followed by Roberston and Kyle. The Jr. Champ Raptor Kyle got a great start on the outside and fell in behind Tyler Roberston and the two cars put a good distance back to the rest of the field. Just before halfway Roberston motor was starting to go south and just past the halfway mark quit coming off of turn 4 allowing the 3rd and 4th place cars to gain on Kyle as he took over the lead. Kyle led the rest of the laps with the #9 of Kyle Welch on his bumper and on the white flag made the pass on Kyle coming out of turn 2. The two cars ran side by side through 3 and 4 but Kyle could not make the pass off of turn 4 and finished in the runner up spot. Congrat's to Welch Racing on their 2 wins. Next up is the 4th race at Lee USA Speedway this coming Friday night with the ALNRS car. See everyone at the track...
6/7/08: Kyle and the team headed to Canaan Fair Speedway this past Saturday night for the ALNRS event. Kyle ran the two practice sessions and the car seemed pretty good but not as fast as the lead cars. Kyle started 7th in the 2nd heat and was only able to gain 1 position which would give him a 12th starting spot in the 14 car field. The team made a chassis adjustment and talked to some other teams and decided to make a gear change. This is just what the car needed as by lap 7 Kyle had made his way all the way to the 6th spot. By lap 12 Kyle was in the 4th spot racing with the leaders when the #92 got into the back of Kyle in the middle of 3-4 and turned him around resulting in Kyle backing into the 4th turn wall. Kyle brought the car to the pits and the team was able to duct tape the rear decklid down and sent him back out. Kyle started in the 12th spot and again was able to race back up into the 9th spot before a caution slowed the field. The restart was single file and the pack got bunched up in turn 3 which made Kyle go to the outside to avoid the car in front of him and when they all started to go again Kyle moved down low and clipped the front of the #6 causing Kyle to spin out. There was no damage to either car but Kyle had to start in the back again with only 5 laps to go. Kyle again charged his way towards the front and when the checkers flew Kyle had moved his way into the 7th spot for the finish. The next race for the team will be the North East Pavement Series race at Sugar Hill Speedway on June 14th. See everyone at the track...
5/19/08: Kyle and the team had a very busy weekend racing in 2 states in 2 days. First up was the Allison Legacy car at Monadnock Speedway on Saturday night. This was Kyle's second race in the car and each track he goes to is his first time being there. The team got 3 practice runs in and Kyle quickly found his way around the tricky 1/4 mile track. Kyle liked the way the car was handling and the lap times were just as good as the top cars. Kyle atarted in the 5th spot in his heat race and did not get a good start and fell to 6th on the start. Kyle got in his rhythm and started to move forward taking over the 5th spot with a few laps left in the race but over drove turns 3-4 on the last lap and spun the car to finish in the last spot. This would give Kyle the last starting spot in the 12 car field. Kyle had learned from the heat race and got better starts avoiding a couple of spins on the green flag start. Once the field got going they started putting down some green flag laps in the 25 lap race. Kyle moved up into the 9th spot just before half way when a caution bunched up the field for another restart. Kyle got another good restart and moved his way into the 7th spot and ran down the 6th place car just past half way. Then trouble struck as Kyle tried to turn down to make the pass coming off turn 4 the car got loose and when Kyle tried to correct it the car turned hard right and made hard contact with the front stretch wall hitting first with the left front and then spinning the car around and getting the rear end. Kyle was able to walk away with only a minor bruise on his shoulder. All the safety components did what they were designed to do and Kyle was able to race the next day in CT. The team got back to the shop around 10:00 and unloaded the car and loaded up the 2 champs for the first race of the N.E.P.S in Pomfret, CT on Sunday. Kyle qualified 6th for the Jr. champ animal division after going off track and mowing the grass for the track. 7 cars took the green for the 20 lap race which saw 3 cautions before 1 lap was in the books. Kyle was involved in the last one when in turn 2 a couple of cars got together sending Kyle into the tire barrier. The track then started the field nose to tail with Kyle being able to move up to the 4th spot which is where he finished in the race. Next up was the Jr. Champ raptor race where Kyle had qualified in the 4th spot. 6 cars took the green and on the start Kyle lost one position. Kyle began to work his way to the front and by half way had run down the 3rd place car of Kyle Welch. With a few laps left Kyle tried to make a pass going into 3 and made contact with Kyle Welch sending them both spinning up the track and the race was ended. Overall it wasn't such a great weekend for the team but a good learning experience for Kyle. The team will be back in action on May 31 with the Allison Legacy car back at Monadnock Speedway and may run at Sugar Hill Speedway this coming Sunday with the champ and modified. One last note to all the racers and teams out there don't ever skimp on your safety equipment. See everyone at the track...
5/11/08: After being rained out at Lee Friday night with the Allison Legacy car Kyle and the team headed to Sugar Hill Speedway Sunday for opening day. Kyle drew the 2nd starting spot in the 10 lap heat race with 5 cars taking the green. Kyle jumped out to an early lead but the handling went away on the car and the #42 ran Kyle down and made the pass to take the victory leaving Kyle with a 2nd place finish. The team made some more adjustments to the car before the feature and just like in the heat race Kyle jumped out to the lead but after 4 laps the #42 of Stephen Morsillo got around Kyle and drove away from the pack. Kyle's car was a handful every lap and he did a great job of keeping the car under him and still finishing in the 2nd spot. Next up for the team is Monadnock Speedway on Saturday night with the Allison car and then Sunday in Pomfret, CT for the first race of the North East Pavement Series with the 2 champ cars. Congrats to Dylan Boutwell for winning his race and to Ashley Boutwell for finishing 2nd in her first race ever. It will be a few weeks before the team can get back to Sugar Hill Speedway to race again as Kyle looks for that 72nd feature victory. See everyone at the track...
4/26/08: Poodiack Racing headed to Sugar Hill Speedway for open practice on Saturday afternoon with the #88 SH modified with driver Bill Kimball Jr. Kyle was flying back from Florida and wouldn't be back in time for practice. Bill was able to get 3 good practice rounds in and was running competitive lap times by the end of the day. The team was also busy setting up Kyle's champ car for racing later that night at Rt. 106 Speedpark. Kyle arrived at Sugar Hill around 4:00 and the team loaded up Kyle's champ and headed to the track. Kyle and the team made it just in time for the final 2 practice sessions at Rt. 106 and it didn't take Kyle long to find the line around the new track. Each time out the team kept making adjustments and the car got faster each time. Kyle drew the pole position for the 15 lap heat race and held the lead for a few laps until Kyle Welch made his way around him and went on to win the race. Kyle finished in the 4th spot. The car was very twitchy in the corners and was a handful to hold on to. The team made some major changes to the car for the 20 lap feature and the car was fast at the start. Kyle moved his way into the 3rd spot and started to run down the leaders but ran out of laps and finished a strong 3rd. The team will look to do better the next time they go back to Rt. 106 in the future. Congrats to Kyle Welch who had a fast car all day and to Dylan Boutwell for winning his Tiger Sprint A feature and Austin Brehio for taking down the win in the Jr. Sportsman race. Overall Kyle did a great job after getting up at 5:00 am to fly back to NH and only getting 2 practice rounds at a track he had never seen before. The team then headed back to Sugar Hill around 10:00 pm to race Sunday in the SH 500. Mother nature had other plans though and rain was in the forecast on Sunday morning. The track officials tried to dry the track for an hour but at noon time with it still misting they postponed the race to this coming Saturday. See everyone at the track...
4/20/08: Kyle and the
team were at Lee USA Speedway this past weekend for Kyle's first Allison
Legacy North Series race. It was open practice on Saturday and Kyle was able
to get 3 practice sessions in. This was the first time Kyle was able to
drive the car at race speed. All 3 sessions went well with Kyle getting more
comfortable each time he went out with the car. By the end of the day Kyle
was only about 3-4 tenths off from the front running cars. The team made
another adjustment but practice ended before they could see how it would
react. Sunday was another great weather day and Kyle had a 10 minute
happy hour before his qualifying races. The car went well but was still on
the tight side. The crew made an adjustment before the heat race where Kyle
started in the 6th spot. On the start Kyle got shuffled outside and had to
fall back to the end of the line and then started making his way through the
field. At the end Kyle made his way around 2 cars and finished in 6th spot
in the 8 lap heat. This gave Kyle a 11th place start in the 20 lap feature
race. The car was still tight so the team made another adjustment to help
the car turn in the center. By the half way point Kyle had moved into the
8th spot and was running down the 7th place car. The caution flew and Kyle
had to start on the outside and lost some positions on the restart but was
able to move back up again to the 8th spot before a series of cautions at
the end came 1 after another. Kyle brought out the caution with 3 to go with
a spin coming off turn 2 but was able to keep it off the wall but was unable
to get the car re fired and needed a push to get going again. On the restart
Kyle was able to get by a couple of cars and then the caution flew again
ending the race. Kyle looked to have finish 9th or 10th but the team is
waiting on the official results. Overall the weekend went great and
Kyle had alot to learn in a short time
with shifting the car and getting use to the weight of the car. The car
came home in 1 piece and Kyle was able to get some valuable seat time for
the next race back at Lee USA Speedway Friday night May 9th. Kyle and Travis
both flew out early Monday morning to spend sometime in Florida with their
grandparents and will fly back Saturday so Kyle can race that night at Rt.
106 Speedway and then Sunday at the Sugar Hill 500 with his champ car.
Poodiack Racing would also like to announce that Bill Kiimball Jr, Kyle's
uncle and crew chief on his Legacy car will be racing Kyle's SH modified in
the 500. The team is still preparing the 2nd modified and hopes to have it
ready later in the summer so Kyle and his Uncle can race against each other
for the first time. See everyone at the track...
